Unite against the War on Women. A call to action this April 28th.

Wow! I am not a woman, but THAT made me want to take up a placard and hit the streets.

And do you know what? I probably will.

Here is the group's Mission Statement:

Help defend women's rights and pursuit of equality. Join Americans all across the United States on April 28th, 2012, as we come together as one to tell members of Congress in Washington DC and legislators in all 50 states, "Enough is enough!"

All Americans have the right to make decisions about their own bodies, including contraception, without interference from government, business or religious institutions.

Everyone is invited to join, plan, and rally as we unite to demand that every person be granted equal opportunities, equal rights, and equal representation.

TELL YOUR LEGISLATORS TO BACK OFF! JOIN US IN YOUR STATE!!! 4.28.12

Here is where you can find the link to the national organization's Facebook page, and where in your area you can get involved.

Below you will find the brilliant Azure Ghosts's creative take on what this conservative agenda being shoved down women's throats is doing to our nation as a whole.

Pretty much says it all doesn't it?

P.S. if graphic does not show up just click here.

Update: For those of you still on the fence concerning the idea that there is a Republican War on Women, a Wisconsin state senator wants to amend existing state law to say the following:

Senate Bill 507, introduced by Republican Senator Glenn Grothman, moves to amend existing state law by "requiring the Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board to emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect."

And who are the vast majority of these "non-marital" parents that are now being accused of contributing to child abuse and neglect?  That's right, MOMS!

Check out this bill in Wisconsin. It basically penalizes single mothers for being unmarried.

Didn't the nazis have breeding factories in Germany? Is that the true purpose of this: as a justification to take children away from single moms and gay parents, so that the state can raise them according to its 'rightie principles'??

On the other hand, it also seems to be the next stage in the white male anger wars, as Azure Ghost so astutely suggests. After all, there aren't many commies with guns pointed at us, and the War on Drugs and the War on Tara (As George Bush pronounced it!) seem to have ended badly (and perhaps been an enormous waste of money).

Oh, dang, let's see: where can angry white men focus their anger and vent their spleens NOW? Who's still weaker than them (so they can easily be 'picked on'/harrassed)??? Oh, that's right: women.

It is long overdue that so little attention is paid to the world's oldest profession. Seriously, should it be criminalized? Should women get the brunt of the rigid laws?

Eleven U.S. Secret Service agents and five military service members are under investigation and facing possible reprimand for allegedly cavorting with prostitutes and drinking excessively at a Colombian hotel ahead of President Obama's visit.

    1. I do believe prostitution should remain criminalized. The focus should be on the pimps and johns who keep this form of abuse going. Many, many of the prostitutes have little say about their situation, and thats why I think it should remain illegal.

Perhaps every man that votes FOR any anti-abortion measures, including compulsory transvaginal ultrasounds, should be required to have vasectomies?

  5. Gryphen,

Thank you for following issues like this. I have wondered for 20 years what happened to feminism. I am the mother of two, have a college degree, have run a business for 25 years and have been stunned by what I have seen the bastards who have been voted in by religious groups, do to women in this country.

It is SO hard to manage life on women's wages. I have found someone who is paying me a little better, but I have been working 7 days a week for almost 8 months now and the guy I work for is doling out payments. Even if & when I get paid what I am owed, the value of my dollars will not matter. The system is always against us. In twenty years anything I have saved will be worth 1/5th or less of what it is today. A cup of coffee will cost $20. (When our parents were young, a cup of coffee cost a dime, now it's $5.00.)

The ONLY way we can protect ourselves is with laws and our health.

I am so happy to see women finally realizing it...it seems like we have to get more women into politics…but it's terrifying to see the ones who are there are idiots like Palin, Bachman and Brewer! That's what they want…they want us to be afraid. So, to all the women who are wondering how they are going to survive this, don't be afraid. Find and follow the true and the right path and somehow we will manage to be okay. I do have faith. I have been given incredible gifts in life...not money, but incredibly smart kids and inner peace.

Thank again, Gryphen, for all you are doing to keep us informed!

Brava! I agree on all points, and yes, I raised my son and daughter to learn to be self-sufficient so they'll never have to depend on their spouse to do for themselves what they should do anyway.
My son knows how to operate all appliances, sew buttons, seams, and hems, iron, cook, clean etc. And managing money.
My daughter knows how to change the oil, add washer fluid, break fluid, change brake discs, mow the lawn, paint, basic household improvements that involve power tools, etc and how to manage money.
No work is beneath them and the skies the limit on their potential, even if they have to fight for it.

We are women, we are strong, we are smart. And we have a sense of humor. We do not need you interfering with our healthcare. We do not need you probing our vaginas to help us make decisions about abortion. We do not need you to give us guidance about whether or not to take birth control. We do not need misogynistic pundits calling us sluts and prostitutes. We are half of the population and we will not be treated as children or a disenfranchised minority.

Tell the male government representatives: “Hands off my uterus! Here’s one of your own!” Knit or crochet a vagina or uterus and send it to your male representative, and print a message to enclose. Don’t forget to thank your representative if he respects women and supports our rights.

Before some guy's prescription for Viagra is covered by insurance, he ought to have to undergo the same kinds of testing that his political brothers are imposing on women:
      1. Full medical exam "down there" to make sure that everything is in good working order. He will have to ejaculate in a cup in front of the doctor to make sure that he can function, and that sperm are viable. Major prostate exam, too, just to make sure that there isn't any blockage.
      2. Expert testimony offered under oath in a public forum form women who can authenticate that without Viagra, the guy simply cannot function. He is going to need to explain why he does need to function. Hint: no Viagra for priests.
      3. If the egg is considered human life 14 days before it is fertilized, then the same thing goes for the sperm. Wasted sperm are a crime against nature, and the guy is either going to be locked up or pay a fine. I'm going to suggest the fine, since it will clear up our national debt in a few years.
      4. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Gals, there are more of us voting then them, don't let them get away with this crap any more. Sorry, Gryphen, but when they decided on equality for women, it really should extend to equality in eery way. Thanks.

Add to that a notarized affidavit from the sexual partner, oops! spouse, that the Viagra is needed for procreation only. The woman's doctor needs to fill out his portion of the form insuring that she's not taking any birth control. Then, of course, we'll need someone from the Central Bureau of Procreation to witness the act of sexual congress to verify compliance with the new laws.

This entire War on Women, while the Republicans try to paint it as otherwise, is really about their repressive views on sex, sin, and what they believe is the god-mandated subservient position of women.

In their opinion, women who don't want--or can't afford--to have children should not be having sex. As Santorum reminds us, sex is for procreation only, and should only take place inside marriage. Therefore, no need for contraception. And if a woman "sins" and falls pregnant, she should have to suffer the pain and shame of giving birth. Then the child should be taken away so that it can be raised by "good Christian parents."

This, in a nutshell, is what drives them. They hate independent women, they hate the idea of women being equal to men, they hate the idea of women being able to make their own decisions and controlling their own bodies. They hate women, full stop.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous11:38 AM

They don't hate all women, just the ones they don't choose to be associated with. That's why Rmoney cannot connect with females who are not LDS. He is scared to death of them. Almost all Mormon men are, they have never been around women stronger than they are and freak out when they are. Once a male child turns 12, he is over his mom in the church hierarchy. While the sons may not disobey their mother, they do not look to her for authority but to their father. He rules all. Having never been around a strong female figure, they are stunted and vulnerable in that area, hence the fear factor.

And what would the esteemed(?) Senator Grothman say about a woman whose husband is verbally, physically or sexually abusive to her or her children? Should she stay in the abusive relationship anyway or should she leave for her and her children's safety? If she left would SHE then be considered abusive?

It's truly frightening that we have legislators at all levels of government who are so incredibly clueless about what really happens in the world around them. Or they don't care about real people and continue to spew their partisan garbage with no regard for how it hurts others.

Either way, we need to get them the hell out of office so they can no longer do damage to our system.

Well, if she weren't so damned selfish and willful she wouldn't be abused- right? Someone with Grothman's views will blame everything on the woman. If a man beats his wife, that is his business; she is his property and must deserve it. Spare the rod, spoil the child. This is not a compassionate man so don't expect him to respond with compassion to abused woman and children. He is playing a political game, but real people will suffer if he is successful.

The people that donated to her did so of their own free will; I don't think a great deal of money came to her thru donations. The less than 1,000 copies of her book that have been sold were not going to provide for her and her family. Whatever it is that she is doing to make ends meet is obviously something that precludes her having her blog. Shailey seems to have had some very tough times, both mentally and financially, and if she has found a real job with real pay then more power to her. She told her story and tried to get people to pay attention but now she needs to move on with her life and put the past behind her until such a time that people that could make a difference pay attention.

    3. Shailey reactivated the comments on her blog and is finally posting dribs and drabs of actual info in response to some visitors' questions. So folks don't have to slog through hundred of comments (like I did), here are some of the Q&As in intelligible format. FYI, FWIW:

Q: Was a condition of your new opportunity that you delete this blog?
A: Yes I need to delete the blog.

Q: Are you going to write a sequel to "Boys..."?
A: Yes there will be a sequel to Boys Will be Boys.

Q: You deleting everything makes those of us who have made an effort to put your book out there look like horses asses.
A: It does not make anyone look stupid for supporting me. It does not make me look less credible. In fact it makes me look more mature in the eyes of a courtroom.

Q: Regardless of what you say, Shailey, deleting the blog so abruptly does compromise your credibility. And with this type of story, your credibility is vital, regardless of what other evidence exists.
A: Having the blog has not helped my credibiltiy with any media and it hurts my chances of having a successful law suit. Lawyers hate me talking about any of it in such a public way.

Q: If she some how changes her mind and comes back for support on her books how many of us will be back to support her again.
A: I think if everyone will just be patient and wait a few weeks, then you wil know what I have been up to and whether ot not i was successful at it.

      Q: [too many to list]
A: There is no sugar daddy, I am not having sex or dating anyone. I have not had a job offer, just an opportunity. I am not in a relationship with a man or a woman. no ramnce or marriage offers. I had a few speaking engagements that were paid. Again I have been presented with an opportuntiy. One I will be too old for if I don't act now. If and that is a big IF I am successful then everyone will be proud of me but most of all I will be proud of myself. No I am not going to change my name and disappear. But at this exact moment in time I wish I could, to take a break from all the stress. ... I sincerely doubt the media will even miss my presence. I am nothing to them. However Sarah and Todd should be worried. ... I am delting [the blog] to show my seriousness and my intent for what is coming up next in my life. ... Now I have an opportunity. nothing on a silver platter. Something I have to work extra ard for because my competition for it is high and I am old. I have to work even harder and proove myself even more. But i am willing to work and fight for this opportunity. ... Yes i will write lots more about the palins in the future.

I can't imagine what she'd be too old for (that's not in show business or the sex trade!), unless it's something like the police/military/FBI. But she keeps saying this "opportunity" is her "dream" come true. I hope things work out for her. And I hope she really means it when she says "Sarah and Todd should be worried."

Also Malia Litman posted this on her blog today:

Be patient! I know of things happening right now the Shay is doing to make her story further known and documented, but we can’t publish the story yet because if the Palins know the details they might interfere with our ability to gather the information, and I know they read this blog. Don’t give up yet. The wheels of justice are slow, but they may still be turning.
