Washington Post reveals that Donald Trump's national security adviser, Mike Flynn, lied to the FBI. Can you say "Just committed a felony?"

Courtesy of WaPo:

Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn denied to FBI agents in an interview last month that he had discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia with that country’s ambassador to the United States before President Trump took office, contradicting the contents of intercepted communications collected by intelligence agencies, current and former U.S. officials said.

The Jan. 24 interview potentially puts Flynn in legal jeopardy, as lying to the FBI is a felony, but any decision to prosecute would ultimately lie with the Justice Department. Some officials said bringing a case could prove difficult in part because Flynn may attempt to parse the definition of sanctions.

A spokesman for Flynn said he had no response. The FBI declined to comment.

Uh oh! Lying to the FBI is kind of a no no.

So now apparently this paragon of virtue, at least that is how he was advertised to the media, has now been caught lying to the Vice President and to the FBI.

Of course considering the administration that he was going to be working with, I almost think that the ability to lie, and lie well, is a prerequisite.

And let's face it with Trump now putting his own people in place, and Comey still leading the FBI, Flynn will absolutely face NO charges for this.

In fact the FBI is already saying as much.

Courtesy of CNN:

The FBI is not expected to pursue any charges against former national security adviser Michael Flynn regarding a phone call with Russia's ambassador, barring new information that changes what they know, law enforcement officials told CNN Thursday.

Flynn initially told investigators sanctions were not discussed. But FBI agents challenged him, asking if he was certain that was his answer. He said he didn't remember.

The FBI interviewers believed Flynn was cooperative and provided truthful answers. Although Flynn didn't remember all of what he talked about, they don't believe he was intentionally misleading them, the officials say.

So you can see that since this story broke the FBI is already starting to provide cover.

How could Flynn, a trained military officer with an intelligence background, "not remember" talking to the Russians about sanctions?

That's bullshit, and if this was not Trump's guy he would indeed be facing charges.

  1. Anonymous6:56 AM

Total bullshit! He lied on purpose. He should be held accountable. It's unbelievable that Comey's just letting him off the hook like this. He knows everyone's watching now and what experts on this topic have said, and he's just letting Flynn go. Not only could Trump shoot someone on 5th Ave. and not lose a vote, he could shoot a roomful of FBI agents and nothing would happen.

  2. Anonymous7:02 AM

He committed a federal crime that Jeff Sessions will never prosecute.

  3. Anonymous7:10 AM

I believe that not only Trump feels emboldened to break the law when it suits him, but also his cabinet feels the same way.

  4. Anonymous7:13 AM

OT. As we know, Trump has been signing things so as to remove environmental protections. His EPA choice, Pruitt, is up for a vote today, a vote that will be held even though a judge just ordered Pruitt yesterday to release three thousand emails. McCain and about ten other senators have something going on in Germany and McCain planned on not voting today and to fly to Ger., but McConnell begged him and the other senators to stay for the vote. With Collins voting against Pruitt and McCain not voting and Dems Manchin (from WVA) and Heitkamp (from ND) it would have been another 50-50 vote needing Pence to come in and vote. These two Dem senators have been voting for everything that is taking away protections for us. This Pruitt vote should not be happening. I wished I believed in hell so that I could wish for those two Dems to rot in hell. Not enough has been out there re all the undoing of protections going on. I mean, Trump even has something on his Twitter page that doesn’t try hiding the fact that he just signed a “bill undoing Obama coal mining rule” that lets all the pollutants from mining go right into streams. Trump isn’t even trying to hide the fact that he’s been dismantling protections. Where are all the environmentalists; voices? I’ve heard all sorts of protesting but not from the people and organizations who in the past have been loud on this. I can’t even remember the last time we heard anything from the Sierra Club and Greenpeace and Ralph Nader. And this week the go-ahead was given on the pipeline in ND. Hardly a whisper has been heard on that.

As far as the current DAPL news, you should look to The Young Turks for their reporting.
Jordan Chariton is one of their investigating reporters, and he spent some time on location there. He's good (he helped blow the whistle recently on Indiana's lead poisoned water that Pence couldn't be bothered to deal with).
Anyway, TYT reports regularly on the DAPL happenings. Friend of the show Wesley Clark Jr is one of the Veterans Stand vets and he and others report as well.

And Martha Stewart was quite liberal politically. I'm not surprised that Comey handled that prosecution. There were probably dozens of more important cases but this one was easy and targeted a woman with celebrity status.

  8. Anonymous7:24 AM

And can you say "This won't go anywhere?" Face it: Trump is untouchable because the deplorables handed this entire country (and Supreme Court) over to the Republicans Nov. 8. He literally could commit murder and will get away with it.
The only, ONLY, thing we can do is vote out Republicans and vote in Democracy X-rays in 2018.

    1. Anonymous9:56 AM

"I spoke this morning with my friend, a former Republican member of Congress, who’s as worried as I am about Trump’s mental state and the growing possibility that he or people around him committed treason by collaborating with Russian operatives to throw the election.
Me: Do other current and former Republican members of Congress feel like you do?
He: Lots of them. They think Trump’s loony tunes, and he’s in Putin’s pocket.
Me: Well why the hell don’t they say something? As long as this looks like a partisan brawl we’re never going to get anywhere.
He: No one wants to be the first. They worry Trump will start tweeting on them, or his crazy-a$$ supporters at home will go after them.
Me: Then why not issue a joint statement? A bunch of Republicans could call for a Select Committee to look into all of this, a special prosecutor. There's safety in numbers.
He: A few of them are talking about it right now, but McCONnell and "anne'Ryan don’t want to rock the boat. They want to focus on repealing Obamacare, getting a giant tax cut, wiping out environmental regulations, you know the drill.
Me: But don’t they know the Trump issues are just going to get worse? Republicans need to get ahead of this or they’ll get bulldozed by it.
He: McCONnell and anne Ryan don’t see it that way. They figure Trump will continue his circus act, stirring up the press, driving everyone crazy. So they can quietly work with 666-Pence and get their agenda through when no one is paying much attention.
Me: You mean Trump is a decoy?
He (chuckling): Yeah. At least for now."

--Carter Page gives interview in front of fake Arizona background – is he still in Russia?

Interview background appears to be stolen from Arizona Congressman

...If your first thought was “Why is he standing outdoors in front of a mountain during a remote television interview,” we asked the same question. And if your second thought was “Does he look like he’s poorly superimposed on that fake looking background,” we asked that question as well. So we went digging, using a Google image reverse-search, and we uncovered this strangely familiar image of Arizona Congressman Trent Franks giving an MSNBC interview in 2016 in front of the exact same scene:

--As FBI agents close in on taking Donald Trump down, James Comey is no longer in control

Comey can no longer stop what’s happening

...It’s now clear that there are (at least) two warring factions within the FBI. One is actively working to take down Trump on the Russia scandal, and is leaking the evidence as it goes, so as to make sure it sees the light of day. The other faction is trying to protect Trump by leaking disinformation. This is nothing new; in fact, before the election, this same faction was likely behind the (false) leak that the Trump-Russia investigation hadn’t turned anything up — which came just days after the anti-Trump faction had leaked the existence of the investigation. And it appears James Comey doesn’t have control over either faction.

If Comey were still in control of the FBI, the agency would be speaking with one voice. Even if it did use media leaks to bypass Trump’s White House, those leaks would all agree with each other. Instead, we have strategically conflicting leaks from the two competing factions. But it’s clear that, wherever Comey personally stands at this point, he lacks the ability or gumption to stand in the way of the anti-Trump faction’s heightening investigation of the Trump-Russia scandal. And that means Trump will be taken down.

--Judge busts Donald Trump’s EPA nominee Scott Pruitt for illegal coverup; confirmation in chaos

Pruitt would be Trump’s second cabinet nominee to fail this week

...Just one day before the Senate was set to vote on Donald Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency nominee Scott Pruitt, a judge in Oklahoma has busted Pruitt for failure to comply with the law in what amounted to an illegal coverup. As a result, thousands of Pruitt’s (likely embarrassing) emails and documents are set to imminently become public – sending his EPA confirmation into chaos.

--Donald Trump’s sinking ship: ten White House Advisory Commission members all resign

The exodus from Trump’s sinking ship continues

...Ten members of the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders all resigned in unison today, in protest of Donald Trump’s treatment of minorities. This means two thirds of the commission is now vacant, after stating that they could no longer remain due to Trump’s portrayal of “immigrants, refugees, people of color and people of various faiths as untrustworthy, threatening, and a drain on our nation.” Among those who resigned were the commission’s chair and vice chair.

While the White House gives itself over to Vladimir Putin's affections, House Oversight Committee Chairman has smaller fish to fry. Instead of investigating the Russian interference in our 2016 elections, Jason Chaffetz has his knives out for Hillary Clinton's server administrator, Bryan Pagliano.

The AP reports that Chaffetz sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday asking him to convene a grand jury or charge Bryan Pagliano.

Chaffetz isn't looking for charges on anything actually connected with Pagliano's services to former Secretary of State Clinton. Instead, he wants criminal charges brought against him for not testifying before Congress. Pagliano exercised his Fifth amendment right not to answer questions at the hearing.

Ranking member Elijah Cummings was quick to respond. "The Oversight Committee can't afford to be distracted by political vendettas against Hillary Clinton while our constituents are begging us to conduct responsible oversight of President Trump," he warned.

This is ridiculous. We literally have questions about whether our elections were compromised and Chaffetz is obsessing on a systems administrator.

White House denies plan to use 100,000 National Guard troops as a deportation force

The Trump administration is considering mobilizing 100,000 members of the National Guard to act as a mass deportation force against undocumented immigrants, the Associated Press reports.

A leaked draft memo obtained by the AP outlines a plan that involves “unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.”

The leaked document makes clear, however, that National Guard members will only be mobilized in different states to round up immigrants if the governors of those states approve of using them for the operation.

The memo in question was written by Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, the AP claims.

The AP reports that the document has been reviewed by DHS staff over the last two weeks.

    1. Anonymous8:07 AM

I read about this this morn and that Trump would leave it up to governors to use the NG or not. Just a way for him to look like he's not being a dictator.

Trump weighs mobilizing Nat Guard for immigration roundups

The Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, according to a draft memo obtained by The Associated Press.

The 11-page document calls for the unprecedented militarization of immigration enforcement as far north as Portland, Oregon, and as far east as New Orleans, Louisiana.

Four states that border on Mexico are included in the proposal — California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas — but it also encompasses seven states contiguous to those four — Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the AP report was "100 percent not true" and "irresponsible." ''There is no effort at all to utilize the National Guard to round up unauthorized immigrants," he said.

Governors in the 11 states would have a choice whether to have their guard troops participate, according to the memo, written by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, a retired four-star Marine general.

While National Guard personnel have been used to assist with immigration-related missions on the U.S.-Mexico border before, they have never been used as broadly or as far north.

The memo is addressed to the then-acting heads of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. It would serve as guidance to implement the wide-ranging executive order on immigration and border security that President Donald Trump signed Jan. 25. Such memos are routinely issued to supplement executive orders.

Also dated Jan. 25, the draft memo says participating troops would be authorized "to perform the functions of an immigration officer in relation to the investigation, apprehension and detention of aliens in the United States." It describes how the troops would be activated under a revived state-federal partnership program, and states that personnel would be authorized to conduct searches and identify and arrest any unauthorized immigrants.

Requests to the White House and the Department of Homeland Security for comment and a status report on the proposal were not answered.

The draft document has circulated among DHS staff over the last two weeks. As recently as Friday, staffers in several different offices reported discussions were underway.

If implemented, the impact could be significant. Nearly one-half of the 11.1 million people residing in the U.S. without authorization live in the 11 states, according to Pew Research Center estimates based on 2014 Census data.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Barred From Meeting They Requested With ICE

As reports of ICE raids ramp up nationwide, even more troubling news is coming out of DC today. Lawmakers were meeting with the with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting Director Tom Homan today to discuss a variety of issues around recent ICE enforcement initiatives. The Hill reports that members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) were asked to leave, and the remaining members not in the room were barred from entering.

Reps. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) and Norma Torres (D-Calif.) were asked to leave first and Reps. Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.) and Juan Vargas (D-Calif.) were not even allowed in.

Reports are that they were asked to leave by Speaker Ryan's spokesperson.

The most shocking part? It was the CHC who asked for the very meeting they were being ejected from!

Vargas said, "I was expecting to get let in. We're the ones who were asking for this meeting, now we've been barred from the meeting. I want to know what they're doing, and now we've been barred from this meeting that we called for."

It's almost like ICE doesn't want to answer any questions, Hmmm...

Torres provided this alarming statement. "I was asked to leave, and I was told that if we would like to have a meeting with ICE, that we need to go with the leadership of the majority party here and ask them to schedule a meeting and ask them to schedule a meeting for us with ICE."

So the GOP has to approve meetings now? Yeah, that won't happen.

Apparently ICE was pleased with their moves, you know, similar to the raids they have been conducting. This time they successfully blocked people from actually attending and holding them accountable.
