Trump's first year in office saw 3.2 million more Americans without health insurance.

Courtesy of TPM:

Over the course of President Donald Trump’s first year in office, the number of Americans without health insurance increased 1.3 percent—with 3.2 million more people uninsured, according to Gallup-Sharecare’s latest tracking report published Tuesday.

It’s the largest one-year increase in the uninsured population since Gallup-Sharecare began the survey in 2008.

The study noted “several factors” swelling the ranks of the uninsured, from increased premiums caused by insurance companies dropping out of the individual market to uncertainty around whether the Trump administration would enforce the individual mandate’s penalty for forgoing health insurance. Exacerbating both factors, the GOP-controlled Congress repealed the individual mandate in December, which is expected to hike premiums by an additional 10 percent or more.

Premiums also went up significantly in 2017 when the Trump administration cut off cost-sharing reduction payments to insurance companies, though the vast majority of people on the individual market were shielded from the increase by a bump in their federal tax credits.

Though the uninsured rate remains well below the high of 18 percent—the year before the Affordable Care Act went into effect—the increase in 2017 is the first reversal of several years of decline. And Gallup-Sharecare predict that the trend will continue, with more people dropping or losing their insurance coverage in the years to come.

Gee, who would have thought that constantly attacking Obamacare without having a better plan to take its place would have such a negative effect?

Oh that's right, the almost 66 million people who voted for his opponent.

This may seem to be a bit of a rant but it's closely related to the fact that more and more Americans are going to be unable to visit a doctor or get needed medical care and it has to do with some of the idiots who get elected to Congress.

The news, about more people without health insurance, should please Congressmen Beneshek and Bergman, both Republicans, the former a doctor and the latter a retired Marine almost-general, who both believe that the American people do not deserve any help from the federal government in any form. Bergman replaced Beneshek in 2016. Both men voted against the ACA at every opportunity and Bergman campaigned in his (and my) rather poor district in northern Michigan that Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA should be ended because the American people do not deserve any "help" from the federal government. Ever since Bergman came on the scene in 2016, I've been amazed that someone who has received so much from the generous American taxpayer could be so ignorant and callous about the societal network that has kept this country going since the end of the Great Depression. Neither of these latter-day politicians has a clue about how the country has operated successfully for many generations. I'm sure Beneshek does not want to give up any perks he acquired during his paltry two terms in Congress and I'm sure that Bergman does not want to give up any perks he accumulated during his military years or those he enjoys (and hopes to keep enjoying) now in Congress.

I can only guess that district voters in 2016 thought they were voting for Beneshek again when they voted for Bergman. Both names begin with "B" and both men are white haired. That both men despise the people who voted for them means little to these voters. I guess they thought any Republican would be good because he would support gun. I wish these misguided voters well when they get sick and do not have the means to help themselves.

"It demonstrates once again to Democrats — and Republicans — that Trump is an unpredictable, unreliable partner who cannot be trusted to keep his word. To lawmakers on Capitol Hill, there may be no greater crime, since all members and senators know their word is their bond. Once you lose that credibility,
